Thank you TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for your $100,000 donation

TELUS Friendly Future Foundation donated $100,000 to London Health Sciences Foundation (LHSF) in support of the critical care needs at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). The donation will go toward the purchase of new medical equipment, such as glidescopes, that are used to treat some patients with COVID-19 who require intensive care. The donation is part of a $10M commitment from the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation announced in March to support and enhance the health care response across Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The outpouring of support during this time of crisis has been inspiring and is a true testament to the community we live in,” says John MacFarlane, LHSF’s President and CEO. “Donations like this one, combined with the existing community support, really allows us to increase our impact in the fight against COVID-19. Thank you for showing your generous support, and rallying behind our front-line heroes.”

The TELUS Friendly Future Foundation has committed to providing much-needed community support to help get through this health care crisis and well beyond. The funding of glidescopes will have an immediate impact on the pandemic-related care provided at LHSC, and into the foreseeable future as we adjust to life with COVID-19.

“During this unprecedented public health emergency, we are especially focused on supporting our communities’ front-line health care teams and enabling urgent funding where it is needed most,” said Dee Brown, Executive Director, TELUS Friendly Future Foundation. “Providing front-line health care workers at London Health Sciences Centre and the patients they serve with supplies and technology that will keep them safe is one way we are doing our part in helping our frontline health care workers in the fight against COVID-19.”

Often, many patients with severe cases of COVID-19 require intensive care in order to save their lives. One of the acute symptoms is difficulty breathing and a glidescope allows health care providers to quickly insert a breathing tube for ventilation in critically ill patients. These new systems take just a few minutes to prepare between patients, which is crucial in providing expedient care.

Although this medical equipment will assist in treating patients with COVID-19, it will continue to help other patients at LHSC who require intensive care. This donation plays a role in arming the hospital with the life-saving resources needed to combat this disease and others that may follow.
